Tom and Maggie were best friends, the only queer outcasts in their tiny town of Burke on the windy plains of Eastern Montana. But now, ten years since Tom’s disappearance one dark October night, he has summoned Maggie back to Burke. Maggie has finally claimed her trans identity and wants nothing more to do with the homophobic population of the hometown she denies . . . but curiosity draws her back. Tom has a story to tell. The story of how he became a witch and the terrible things he did to accomplish this feat. At the story’s end, he warns her, he’s going to call in a favor . . . one that will impact all the people of Burke. But the horror he threatens to unleash may destroy him and Maggie both, body and soul.

Laramie Dean grew up on the Montana prairie, which helped him fashion his writing style, what he refers to as “Montana Gothic.” After earning his Doctorate in Speech Communication and Playwriting from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Laramie accepted the position of Director of Theatre at Hellgate High School in Missoula, Montana, where he lives with his husband. He is also the author of Black Forest and Haunt Me, Then.
